SEREMBAN: A 46-year-old self-employed man claimed trial at the Sessions Court here to a charge of soliciting and accepting a RM15,000 bribe from a woman to free her mother who had been detained by the police.

Khairul Husni Othman pleaded not guilty to the charge after it was read to him before Judge Diana Md Razali.

The accused allegedly committed the offence at a house in Rasah Kemayan near here on June 1, 2017.

He had allegedly solicited the money from Ros Zunnurain Mohammad Razif as an inducement to get her mother Roslina Abu Bakar released.

Offenders can be jailed up to 20 years and fined not less than five times the total value of the bribe upon conviction.

Diana then allowed the accused to be released on bail of RM8,000 and fixed July 30 for next mention.
