Tyshawn Sorey is a musician, performer, and composer who gained a “MacArthur Genius” Fellowship in 2017 (*50*) his work. His type straddles the world of jazz, improvisation and classical music.
He acquired a fee from Susan Rothenberg and DACAMERA of Houston to create a chunk of music (*50*) the fiftieth Anniversary of the Rothko Chapel.
The music that Sorey composed is a meditative work, a mirrored image of the non-denominational chapel and the 14 work on the octagonal partitions by the artist, Mark Rothko. The chapel is situated in Houston, Texas, and is a well-liked public artwork house.
The BBC just lately sat down with Sorey at the University of Pennsylvania – the place he at present teaches – to debate his newest composition, “Monochromatic Light (Afterlife)”.
This work can be staged at the Park Avenue Armory in New York City this autumn.
