Alcoholic beverage factories ordered to cease work


PUTRAJAYA: Alcoholic beverage factories have been ordered to cease operations immediately and are not allowed to be in operation during the nationwide full lockdown which will be in effect until June 14.

Senior Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said under the lockdown, all sectors in the manufacturing industry were to close with the exception of 12 categories allowed to operate.

“The permission to operate is given to factories in the food and beverage industry but it is only for those producing essential items.

“Alcoholic beverage factories are not in the category of essential necessities.

“The National Security Council has decided that all alcoholic beverage factories are to close immediately, ” he said in a statement yesterday.

A purported approval letter for

a certain brewery to operate during this lockdown made its round on social media.

Ismail Sabri also said several localities in Sabah and Sarawak would be placed under the enhanced movement control order beginning tomorrow.
