KUCHING: The State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) yesterday reported one death in the state due to Covid-19, bringing the total number of deaths in Sarawak so far to 10.
The tenth victim was a 56-year-old from Kampung Demak Baru here who tested positive on April 1 and died on April 3 at 4.16pm, said Tourism, Arts and Culture Minister Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah.
A total of 15 new positive cases were recorded, bringing the total number of cases in the state to 254 since March 13. All of the patients are treated at the Sarawak General Hospital (SGH).
“A total of 70 new person under investigation (PUI) cases were recorded with the total PUI cases standing at 1,579. From the total, 1,135 cases tested negative for Covid-19 while the remaining 190 cases are pending lab results.
“From the 44 new PUI cases, two were screened at Kompleks Belia dan Sukan and 42 cases at SGH,” Abdul Karim told a daily press conference on Covid-19 briefing yesterday. He was representing quarantined SDMC chairman and Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas.
The remaining PUI cases were recorded in Miri (11), Serian (8), Samarahan (5), Sri Aman (1) and Bintulu (1).
Abdul Karim said the compliance of the movement control order (MCO) stood at 95 percent while 20 individuals had been arrested for flouting the order. A total of 26 people were charged before the court on Friday.
