KUALA LUMPUR: A total of 234 policemen and officers have been found guilty of being involved in criminal activities and corruption since 2016.
Bukit Aman Integrity and Standard Compliance Department (JIPS) director Comm Datuk Zamri Yahya said those found guilty were 29 officers with the rank of Inspector and above as well as 205 personnel of various ranks.
“Most of them were terminated from the force on top of serving their sentences.
“160 of them were involved in criminal activities while the remaining were caught for corruption,” he said during an interview with The Star on Thursday (June 10).
Comm Zamri said besides crimes and corruption, JIPS also took action against police officers and personnel who were involved in disciplinary misdemeanours, including delays in completing an investigation paper and misconduct.
“From 2016 until 2020, we have taken action against 1, 563 officers and 11, 049 personnel members.
“Among the actions taken were demotions, suspensions and transfers to other duties,” he said.
Comm Zamri said the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) is the guardian of society, thus all members, be it officers or personnel must have high integrity and deliver the best service to the public.
“JIPS is committed to ensuring that those in the police force uphold the mandate given to us by the public,” he added.
