KUALA LUMPUR: What higher method to celebrate turning 50 than to have your own event.
That is what former All-England finalist Ong Ewe Hock (pic) has in thoughts as he appears ahead to mark the event on March 14.
He is at present working with Rotary Club of Rahman Putra to organise the inaugural “Piala Ong Ewe Hock redONE Challenge Trophy” in Penang from March 12-13.
There shall be 20 groups competing in 4 teams and the shuttlers shall be taking part in in three classes – combined doubles (open), males’s doubles (mixed age 90 and mixed age 100).
The format of play is spherical robin for the group levels and a scoring level system of 1 recreation 30 factors.
The champions will obtain RM10,000 and runners-up RM5,000 whereas semi-finalists take dwelling RM2,500.
As Ewe Hock places it, the competitors is held not simply along with his birthday but additionally to elevate funds for the Rotary Club Rahman Putra Transformation Programme.
“All proceeds will be put into this programme,” he stated.
“We thought of doing this to raise some funds for the club, which comprised mostly former national and state players.
“In the future, we also plan to do junior development programmes and details will be announced at the right time.
“The prize money is one of the highest in the country. I believe many former national and state players will take part.
“Among those who will be signing up are Roslin Hashim, Foo Kok Keong and Goh V Shem. I believe this will generate a lot of interest for badminton fans in Penang,” stated the previous worldwide.
