KUCHING: Drastic actions need to be taken in order to curb the spread of the Covid-19 pandemic, said Tupong assemblyman Fazzrudin Abdul Rahman.

“The main objective now is to stop the virus transmission and in order to achieve that, drastic action needs to be taken. We have to concentrate on this now.

“The sooner we accept the fact that these are dire times, the better chances we have to curb the spread.”

Fazzrudin gave his thoughts when contacted yesterday on the public’s hope to call off the annual Ramadan bazaar even after the movement control order (MCO) is lifted after Apr 14 as they are fearful of a potential third wave of Covid-19.

“If we don’t adhere to what the government asked of us now, how can we blame the government for imposing stricter regulations or action.

“We should look at Italy and Spain where sadly, the death case rises drastically and take it as a lesson for us,” he said.

Fazzrudin assured that the government would do everything possible to assist and cushion the economic impact on the community.

He urged the public to cooperate and work together to curb the spread of the pandemic virus.

“Once we have achieved that, God willing, we will have our normal lives back,” he said.

Commenting on the ‘drive thru bazaars’ which was brought up by Health director-general Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah, Fazzrudin said such concept was logical but its implementation has to be looked into.
