PETALING JAYA: Datuk Lee Chong Wei has encouraged Malaysians to register for the vaccination programme.

In a Facebook post, the former national shuttler said he received his first vaccine jab on Friday morning (June 18).

“Baru divaksin dose pertama pagi tadi. Semuanya berjalan lancar sekali. (Just got the first vaccine dose this morning. Everything went smoothly.)

“Ribuan terima kasih kepada frontliners kita yang kerja bertungkus lumus demi keselamatan dan kesihatan kami semua. (Many thanks to our frontliners who had worked hard to ensure our wellbeing and safety),” he wrote.

Based on the post, it is believed that Lee was given the jab at GHHS Healthcare in Seri Kembangan. He was accompanied by his wife Wong Mew Choo.

He asked fellow Malaysians to register for the vaccination programme for their loved ones for the country’s sake as well as frontliners.

Lee also said how many others, after being vaccinated, are spending their time at home to watch football matches such as the Euro 2020 and Copa America 2021.

“Vaksin tu memang menjadi kawan-kawan. Jom vaksin! (The vaccine is indeed a friend. Let’s get vaccinated!),” he said.

The post so far garnered over 9, 000 Likes with many social media users looking forward to be vaccinated.

The Special Committee on Ensuring Access to Covid-19 Vaccine Supply (JKJAV) was reported saying that some 177,876 people received their first dose while 43,830 people received their second dose on Thursday (June 17).

The JKJAV added that a total of 5,330,654 vaccine doses have been administered since the start of the National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme.
