KOTA KINABALU: Sabah PKR chief Datuk Christina Liew has commended the Sabah government for being firm in its decision to allow dine-ins at eateries in Sabah.
The former deputy chief minister and former state tourism, culture and development minister said the move was seen as an empathetic one towards businesses concerned.
“Commendation to the government for its consistency in maintaining a standard operating procedure (SOP) which we feel is more empathetic to the small businesses sector.
“This will clear the air of uncertainty among operators of coffee shops and restaurants, including those in hotels, who need breathing room to survive economically,” Liew said.
Meanwhile, the Tawau MP also hoped the appointment of a Deputy Prime Minister and a new Senior Minister (Security) will translate to speedier distribution of Covid-19 vaccine to the state, among other assistance.
Liew noted that the state government had requested to increase the supply of vaccine doses to Sabah to meet the target of administering shots to 30,000 recipients a day.
Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor recently revealed that Sabah is getting one million vaccine doses this month and another 1.2 million doses next month.
“As it is, thousands of people have yet to receive their first dose despite having registered for vaccination months ago.
“These include tourism stakeholders, industrial workers, e-hailing drivers, and food delivery riders among others, not to mention those who are awaiting their second dose vaccination.
“So we hope the Federal Government will keep its promise to deliver the vaccines as scheduled,” said Liew who is also Api Api assemblyman.
