PETALING JAYA: The second phase opt-in for the AstraZeneca Covid-19 vaccine was snapped up in an hour with a total of 956,609 slots taken up by Malaysians aged 18 and above, says the Covid-19 Immunisation Task Force (CITF).

CITF said this was in addition to the 275,208 slots that were booked by the elderly during the registration initiative from May 23 to 25, and 29,183 who were on the wait-list from a total of 1,261,000 slots.

“When the registration was opened this afternoon, a technical problem happened that resulted in users having problems accessing several features in the website.

“CITF takes this mechanical problem seriously and will take action on the relevant parties in the interest of the public and the country, ” it said in a statement on Wednesday (May 26).

CITF said it was aware that there were many Malaysians who were interested in obtaining the vaccine but had failed to do so.

However, it assured Malaysians that they would still be able to get their vaccines under the National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme, especially when the vaccination process ramps up in the coming months.

The second round of opt-ins for the AstraZeneca Covid-19 vaccine on Wednesday (May 26) afternoon was opened to those over 18 years old living in Kuala Lumpur, Selangor, Penang, Johor and Sarawak.
