Condolences pour over Umno deputy permanent chairman’s death from Covid-19

PETALING JAYA: Umno deputy permanent chairman Datuk Seri Rizuan Abd Hamid (pic) passed away late Thursday (May 20) after contracting Covid-19.

This was confirmed by the Umno President Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi on Twitter account.

“It is with deep sadness that we received the news that my good friend Datuk Seri Rizuan Abd Hamid, Umno Kepong division chairman and deputy permanent chairman has passed away,” stated Ahmad Zahid.

Rizuan passed away on Thursday night after contracting Covid-19 on May 1 and was placed in the ICU of Universiti Malaya Medical Centre.

Rizuan’s wife, Tan Sri Madinah Mohamad, who is also the former auditor-general is also being treated at the same hospital for Covid-19.

MCA president Datuk Seri Wee Ka Siong also sent his condolences to Rizuan’s family.

“Condolences to the family of Umno deputy permanent chairman Datuk Seri Rizuan Abd Hamid who passed away last night from Covid-19. May his soul be blessed.

“Let us also pray for the recovery of his wife, former auditor-general and education ministry chief secretary Tan Sri Madinah Mohamad,” said Dr Wee in a Facebook post.

Various political leaders also sent their condolences on Rizuan’s passing.

Federal Territories Minister Tan Sri Annuar Musa tweeted: “Rizuan breathed his last at 10.53pm on Thursday night. May all his sins be forgiven and he be placed with those of best faith. Al-Fatihah.”

Former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak expressed his condolences on Rizuan’s passing.

“My friend Rizuan passed away last night. Condolences to Tan Sri Madinah and his family. May his soul be blessed and placed with the best of people. Al-Fatihah. I also ask everyone to pray for the recovery of all Covid-19 patients,” said Najib.
