BALIK PULAU: Police have detained a man who allegedly gave a baby an alcoholic drink on Tuesday (June 22).
Balik Pulau OCPD Supt Kamarul Rizal Jenal said the 19-year-old suspect was nabbed at Teluk Bahang at about 1.30pm.
“He was arrested shortly after police launched an investigation based on a report made,” he said in a statement on Tuesday (June 22).
Supt Kamarul said police are investigating the case under Section 31(1)(a) of the Child Act 2001 and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.
He said the suspect also had a record of 14 prior crimes, and is a person under police surveillance in Teluk Bahang.
Supt Kamarul said the baby in the alleged video has been sent to hospital for checks.
He added that the suspect would be taken to the Balik Pulau Magistrate’s Court for a remand order application.
A 30-second video that went viral on Tuesday (June 22) shows the man holding the baby and feeding it from a can bearing the label of an alcoholic beverage.
It is unclear if the baby was actually given alcohol by the man, who was seen smiling when the toddler grabbed his hands with the can.
