NILAI: Several individuals captured in two video recordings which have since gone viral are policemen on official duty, says district police chief Supt Mohd Fazley Ab Rahman.

He said the policemen from the Nilai commercial crime unit and Penang’s Dato Keramat police station were carrying out an operation at a dwelling in George Town when a woman, who was inside the unit, made the recording.

“Earlier today, we came to know of the two recordings titled ‘Polis Palsu’ which went viral and I would like to state that the individuals are actually policemen from the two stations.

“They were conducting a raid under Ops Pelican at the unit around 11pm on July 12,” he said in a statement Tuesday (July 13).

The first recording was 33 minutes long and the second, 52 minutes.

Supt Mohd Fazley said the policemen, most of whom were in plainclothes, were looking for a male suspect over a probe in a cheating case.

The cops, he said, had followed all procedures when they went to the unit which included showing the occupant their authority cards.

The policemen, he said, were finally allowed to enter the unit but they did not find the male suspect there.

“I would like to appeal to the people not to sensationalise the matter and to always cooperate with the police to enforce the law,” he said.

In the recordings, the policemen could be heard telling the woman to give her cooperation and allow them in for an inspection.

The woman could be heard saying she did not believe the men were cops and that she cannot let them in.

She also told them that she was afraid to open the door as it was late and that there were only children in the unit.

She could also be heard asking her friends on social media for help and was advised by them not to allow the individuals in.

The men then asked her to call 999 for confirmation as they had waited for hours.

The cops had also threatened to cut the padlock to the unit to gain entry but eventually decided against it.
