KLUANG: Fourteen people were slapped with a RM5,000 compound each after being caught breaking Covid-19 standard operating procedure (SOP) at a birthday party here.

Kluang OCPD Asst Comm Low Hang Sen said that the group was found gathering in front of a house at Taman Suria at about 11pm on Tuesday (May 18).

“Following a tip-off from the public, the police went to the house and found the group there.

“Initial investigation showed that 13 of them had visited the person living in the house for a birthday party,” he said in a statement here on Wednesday (May 19).

He said that the 14, who are between the ages of 17 and 38, were each issued a RM5,000 compound under the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases (Measures within Infected Local Areas) Regulations 2021.

On a separate matter, ACP Low also refuted claims that an area in the district would be placed under the enhanced movement control order.

“We found a voice note that had been widely shared in Kluang, claiming that the Taman Sri Lambak will be placed under the enhanced MCO.

“We have investigated the content of the voice note and found that it was untrue.

“Serious actions could be taken under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 against improper use of network facilities or network service where if found guilty, offenders could receive a fine of not more than RM50,000 or one year’s imprisonment or both,” he said.

He urged people not to share any unverified information that may cause distress among the public.
