KUALA LUMPUR: Police have dismissed a viral message claiming that a bogus Immigration officer is making “home visits” in Ampang.

Ampang Jaya OCPD Asst Comm Mohamad Farouk Eshak said they received a report from a 60-year-old e-hailing driver who is the owner of a house along Jalan Maju 1/3 Taman Lembah Maju in Pandan Indah here.

“Our investigations revealed that two Immigration Department officers from Putrajaya headquarters went to the house on an official investigation.

“They identified themselves and gave the reason for coming to the house,” he said in a statement on Monday (July 12).

He said police were aware of a message about the incident being circulated on WhatsApp.

A picture of one of the officers was attached along with a voice note saying that the person came to a house to make an arrest.

The voice, believed to be a woman’s, also claims the homeowner refused to let the man enter and he left but came back later.

The woman goes on to say that the homeowner lodged a police report and found that the vehicle they used had fake licence plates.

She adds that the logo on the officer’s uniform is fake as well.

“The message being circulated is false and is an attempt to tarnish the good name of the officer involved.

“We have received a report from the Immigration officer as well,” ACP Mohamad Farouk said, urging the public not to speculate on the incident and to stop circulating the message.
