Cops interrupt drug party in Penang homestay, 11 arrested

BUKIT MERTAJAM: Police broke up a drug party at a homestay in Jalan Perda Selatan here and arrested 11 individuals just after midnight on Friday (June 25).

Central Seberang Prai OCPD Asst Comm Shafee Abd Samad said the suspects, six men and five women aged 18 to 25, were nabbed during an operation by a movement control order task force police team at 12.01am.

“When police arrived at the location, they observed the place for 10mins before a senior officer in the raiding party knocked on the door of the homestay unit and introduced himself to one of the suspects who opened the door,” he said in a statement.

ACP Shafee said police then detained the suspect and upon inspecting the house, found 10 more suspects allegedly high on drugs in the living room.

ACP Shafee said the team also found a packet containing 14 blue and green ecstasy pills, 4.7g of methamphetamine and three plastic packets of drugs believe to be ketamine weighing about 4.7g.

ACP Shafee said the drugs were confiscated and brought to district police headquarters.

He said the suspects were also issued compound notices under Regulation 17 of the Prevention and Control of Infectious Disease Regulations 2021.

The case is being investigated under Section 12(3) and 15(1) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, he added.
