PUTRAJAYA: The target of fully vaccinating 10% of Malaysia’s population against Covid-19 is expected to be achieved by mid-July, says Khairy Jamaluddin.
He said this projection is based on vaccine supply as well as the capacity of vaccination centres to administer the shots.
He said that currently, for every 100 doses administered, 30 are for those taking their second dose of vaccine.
“To fully immunise 10% of 3.2 million of the country’s population, we need to administer 10.7 million doses,” he said at the weekly National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme media briefing on Monday (June 21).
The minister was asked whether the current number of Covid-19 cases would allow the National Recovery Plan to go from one phase to the next.
The transition between phases will depend on threshold indicators centred on a drop in daily cases, a rise in vaccination rates and intensive care unit (ICU) occupancy rates falling to a moderate level.
Khairy said the immunisation programme’s area of responsibility is to ensure vaccination figures are ramped up.
He added that by the end of June, about eight million doses would have been administered.
“We feel that we can get about 10.7 million by mid-July and therefore, achieve 10% full coverage by then,” he said.
