PETALING JAYA: Malaysia saw another 160 fatalities due to Covid-19 on Sunday (Aug 1) for a total of 9,184 deaths nationwide to date, says the Health Ministry.

In a statement on Sunday (Aug 1), Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said there were 55 deaths in Selangor, followed by 25 in Kuala Lumpur, and 14 each in Negri Sembilan and Johor.

There were also 10 deaths each in Melaka and Kedah, as well as eight deaths in Pahang, seven in Sabah, six in Penang, four each in Kelantan and Perak, as well as three in Terengganu.

There were 20 who were brought-in-dead and 133 others with comorbidities.

Another 17,150 new Covid-19 cases were reported, with 4.3% of them classified as Categories 3, 4, and 5.

“About 16,405 cases (95.7%) were Categories 1 and 2, based on their clinical condition when first diagnosed with Covid-19.

“There are some who remain in the same category for the duration of their infection, but there are some who either improve by moving down a category or deteriorate by moving up a category,” he said.

Meanwhile, there were also 23 new clusters reported on Sunday, 11 of which were detected in workplaces.

Another eight clusters were linked to community transmission, while two were found among high-risk groups – one in an education centre and another in a detention centre.

The most number of clusters were found in Kelantan with six clusters, followed by five in Johor and four in Selangor.
