KOTA KINABALU: About 18.2% or 213 of the 1,166 Covid-19 new cases recorded in Sabah on Monday (Aug 2) involve those who have received at least one dose of vaccine – but the bulk of those infected have not been vaccinated.
Sabah Local Government and Housing Minister Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun said 92 cases involved individuals who have been fully vaccinated and 121 individuals who have received their first jab.
“Compared to the total, 304 positive cases (26.1%) are from the category of those not qualified for vaccination, 649 cases (55.7%) are those who have not been vaccinated.
“This showed that the community’s adherence to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) was still too low,” the state Covid-19 spokesperson said in a statement on Monday.
Masidi said from the cases on Monday, 793 were aged from 18 to 59, followed by 215 cases involving those aged from six to 17.
“Covid-19 also was affecting infants and the elderly.
“Nineteen cases involve babies aged one and below, 70 cases are minors aged between one to five years old, while 69 senior citizens aged 60 years old and above also tested positive,” he added.
Out of the total, Masidi said 70.27% of Monday’s cases were under Category 1 which is asymptomatic (322 cases) and Category 2, which have mild symptoms (495).
“Patients under both categories do not require hospitalisation and are placed at Covid-19 quarantine and treatment centres (PKRCs),” he added.
Sabah also recorded one new cluster dubbed Sibulu in Tenom on Monday, involving a workplace cluster with 55 cases.
