KOTA KINABALU: A total of 69 people from Kg Pondo have escaped here, as the area will be placed under enhanced movement control order from Thursday (July 8).
Datuk Masidi Manjun said that the police are currently searching for the 69 people, after they are believed to have escaped while on the way to the Covid-19 quarantine and treatment centre.
The minister in charge of Covid-19 matters in Sabah said that if they fail to return on their own and are arrested, they will face legal consequences under the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases Act, among other laws.
He said this when announcing Sabah’s latest Covid-19 situation and related SOPs on Tuesday (July 6).
“Return to Kg Pondo immediately or face the consequences, ” he said, adding that they must not spread the virus outside the community.
Kg Pondo is among four villages within the Pulau Gaya locality, which will be under EMCO starting July 8.
The other three villages are Kg Kasuapan, Kg Lok Urai and Kg Pulau Gaya.
These localities have a cumulative 215 Covid-19 cases to date.
Meanwhile, Sabah recorded 225 new cases with one death and a new cluster on July 6.
