Covid-19: 77 more fatalities bring death toll to 5,574

PUTRAJAYA: Another 77 people in Malaysia succumbed to the Covid-19, bringing the total number of deaths in the country since the pandemic began to 5,574.

In his daily statement on Monday (July 5), Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said Selangor recorded the most fatalities, with 30 deaths recorded.

Other states with deaths are Kuala Lumpur (10 cases), Negri Sembilan (10), Melaka (eight), Johor (seven), Pahang (four), Kedah (four), Kelantan (three) and Labuan (one).

In terms of age, 46 deaths involved those aged 60 and above, while 30 were those between 30 to 59.

Only one case involved an individual aged below 30 – a 29-year-old man in Selangor who had a history of diabetes and obesity.

The foreign national was a brought-in-dead (BID) case at Hospital Tengku Ampuan Rahimah in Klang.

In total, the ministry reported 13 death cases that were classified as BID on Monday.

Currently, 923 patients are in intensive care, with 433 needing ventilator support.

Active cases continued its ascendancy, with 69,447 Covid-19 positive patients currently hospitalised or under observation across the country.

On Monday, Malaysia recorded 6,387 new Covid-19 cases and 4,532 recoveries.
