KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia’s Covid-19 infectivity rate or R0 (R-naught) has come down to below 1.0 for two days straight, with a reading of 0.97 on Friday (Sept 3).

Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said the decreasing infectivity rate was a positive sign.

“This is a positive sign as many economic and social sectors have been opened recently and the situation looks controlled, and shows it is gradually becoming better.

“Sarawak recorded the highest R0 rate with a 1.2 on Friday, followed by Perlis (1.15), Johor (1.09), Terengganu (1.07), Sabah (1.06), Penang (1.05), Kedah (1.03), Kelantan (1.03), Perak (1.01), Pahang (1.0), Putrajaya (0.95), Selangor (0.9), Melaka (0.88), Kuala Lumpur (0.81), and Negri Sembilan (0.81).

“Of the 19,378 new cases recorded on Friday, 332 cases (1.7%) were category three, four and five, while 19,046 cases (98.3%) were category one and two.

“A total of 8,847 cases (45.7%) were unvaccinated, 4,638 cases (23.9%) had received at least one dose, while the remaining 5,893 cases (30.4%) were fully vaccinated,” he said.
