Covid-19: Sabah hits new daily record with 1,291 cases reported on Friday (Aug 6)

KOTA KINABALU: Sabah has hit an all-time high of 1,291 new daily Covid-19 cases on Friday (Aug 6).

The previous record was 1,199 in November.

State minister in charge of Covid-19 matters Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun said of these cases, close contacts continue to be the biggest contributor at 772 or 60% of the total.

He said sporadic infections are also increasing, with 299 cases or 23%.

He added that 1,180 of the new cases are in Stages One and Two of severity.

“Our main focus now is to ensure that every eligible person gets fully vaccinated as soon as possible,” Masidi said.

He said the state government must make sure that Covid-19 vaccine supplies are sufficient at all times.

“The state government is expected to announce some initiatives that would see the vaccination process for Sabah go smoothly,” he added.

This year, Sabah’s new daily cases started to hit the four-digit mark on July 30 with 1,066 cases, followed by 1,035 on July 31l; 1,002 on Aug 1; 1,166 on Aug 2; and 1,010 on Aug 3, before going down to 949 on Aug 4 and rising to 1,062 on Aug 5.
