KOTA KINABALU: The state Covid-19 management committee will have a meeting on Sunday (May 23) to discuss if there is a need to amend existing SOPs to better combat the spread of the virus, says Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun.
Among the SOPs taking effect till June 7 are related to inter-district travel, operating time of the various types of businesses and service sectors, prohibition in holding of social events, capacity for premises, houses of worship as well as terms and conditions relating to sports and recreational events and competitions.
He also said Sabah’s Covid-19 management and SOPs as per the state conditional movement control order is not affected by the tighter restrictions imposed in Peninsular Malaysia and Labuan.
The minister in charge of Covid-19 matters in Sabah said from the existing SOPs practised in the state, some are already stricter than those in Peninsular Malaysia.

Meanwhile, Masidi said Sabah recorded a total of 189 new Covid-19 cases and three new clusters on May 22.
The three new clusters – Kluster Indani in Semporna, Kluster Abaka in Tawau and Kluster Melikai in Kuala Penyu – are due to, among others, entries from Labuan and Hari Raya visits.
Three localities – Kampung Melika Kuala Penyu and Silimpopon Estate as well as Silimpopon Mill in Kalakan – will be placed under the enhanced movement control order starting May 24 until June 6.
A total of 20 people have been issued with compounds for violating SOPs statewide.
These include four people who took part in prohibited activities, eight for not wearing or not putting on their face masks properly, as well as six people who failed to maintain physical distancing.
