Covid-19: Seven deaths, 323 new cases reported in Sarawak on Wednesday (May 19)

KUCHING: Sarawak reported seven more deaths from Covid-19 on Wednesday (May 19), its highest daily fatality count to date, along with 323 new cases.

The state disaster management committee said the latest fatalities were five men aged 43 to 89 and two women aged 56 and 90.

All had comorbidities such as hypertension, diabetes, asthma and obesity, the committee said in a statement.

This takes the state’s death toll to 237 while the cumulative tally of confirmed cases rose to 39,651.

Of the new cases, the committee said 190 or 58.8% were recorded in Kuching (59), Miri (45), Sibu (43) and Bintulu (43).

Eighteen other districts reported between one and 28 cases each.

The committee also said a new workplace cluster emerged at Kota Samarahan involving a palm oil mill.

Dubbed the Jalan Endap Sawit cluster, it currently has 29 confirmed cases out of 48 individuals screened.

The Tembok Sri Aman cluster, meanwhile, was declared to have ended, leaving 84 active clusters in the state.
