KOTA KINABALU: A shopping complex in the city here was ordered to close for sanitisation as the daily cases in Sabah continue to spike.

The Karamunsing Complex management confirmed on Facebook that the district Health Department had ordered the mall to shut for two days for sanitisation, and is slated to reopen on Saturday (May 22).

Meanwhile, state Local Government and Housing Minister Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun said the Lorong Karamunsing cluster involving an electronic store workplace cluster, was one of the four new clusters reported on Thursday (May 20).

“The index case is a male staff member who fixes laptops.

“The cluster at the city centre, also saw the family members of the worker infected, and it involved neighbouring Putatan, Penampang and Tuaran districts,” said Masidi, adding that 28 cases from workplace and close contact screenings were recorded so far.

Masidi said Sabah’s total daily cases escalated today to 245, up from 160 cases on Wednesday (May 19).

Two other workplace clusters were recorded in Papar and Kota Kinabalu respectively.

Another cluster in Kalabakan involved a processing plant worker in a plantation, who was believed to have been infected when attending a Mother’s Day event at Gereja Gabungan Silimpopon, Masidi added.

In the daily statement to update Covid-19 developments, Masidi also clarified the interpretation of essential services allowed to enter the state without special approval.

“The definition is for uniformed security forces as well as health and medical services under the Health Ministry who are permitted to enter Sabah without special approval,” he explained.
