SIBU: The district is ready to start home isolation of certain low-risk positive Covid-19 cases as it has achieved a high vaccination rate.

As of Wednesday (Sept 1), 231,348 people or 91.6% of the vaccine-eligible population in Sibu district had received at least one dose of vaccine and 223,825 (88.6%) had completed both doses.

Sibu Division Health officer Dr Teh Jo Hun told a press conference via Zoom on Thursday (Sept 2) that current indicators for the district to move into Phase 3 of the National Recovery Plan (NRP) are still being maintained.

He added that the criteria for home isolation is very strict and a careful assessment by doctors at Covid-19 Assessment Centres (CAC) will be carried out before patients are allowed to quarantine at home.

“They will be monitored by doctors regularly, given a home surveillance order and wristband,” he said.

However, not all Covid-19 patients in Category 1 or 2 will be allowed home isolation.

“Those who have been given this privilege should adhere to all the advice and instructions given by the doctors to ensure their safety as well as that of their family and loved ones.

“They should not leave their quarantine location and must notify the doctors in charge if they become sickly or have trouble breathing.

“Some may be lent home monitoring tools such as a portable pulse oximeter. We hope they will use it and look after it well and return it once they finish their quarantine,” he said.

Dr Teh said in case of emergency, patients may contact Hospital Sibu at 084-343 333, extension 1162 for ambulance service. For other enquiries, the Hospital Sibu Covid-19 helpline is at 084-348 676.

Positive cases under home isolation may contact the CAC at 019-898 7642 (office hours) or 019-7074 365/019-707 4391.

“We seek co-operation and patience from everyone in Sibu to adhere to SOPs such as wearing face masks, maintaining physical distancing, and seeking early treatment if unwell.

“Despite the rising number of cases, we believe that working together, we can be safe and learn to live with Covid-19 under the new norm with new behaviours,” said Dr Teh.
