Covid-19 SOP compliance: 1,400 people nabbed in Melaka since March 2020

MELAKA: Melaka police have arrested 1,400 people since the start of compliance operations on Covid-19 standard operating procedure (SOP) since March, last year.

Melaka deputy police chief Senior Asst Comm Razali Abu Samah said 818 people were arrested in Melaka Tengah, followed by 375 in Alor Gajah and 207 in Jasin from March 18, 2020 to July 31 of this year.

“A case study on the SOP related operation was conducted in that period, where 4.8 million vehicles were also inspected,” he said on Friday (Sept 3).

SAC Razali noted that compound notices totalling RM2.2mil were issued to 2,258 people from March 18 to Dec 31 last year, followed by compound notices totalling RM2mil were issued to 2,077 people from Jan 1 to May 31 this year.

He added that from June 1 to July 31 this year, compound notices totalling RM5.7mil were issued to 1,600 people, as well as 133 premises owners.

He said most of the SOP offences included failure to wear face masks and not recording details on MySejahtera or on the logbook before entering premises, allowing dine-ins, failing to maintain physical distancing and operating beyond the allowed operating hours.

SAC Razali also revealed that inspections were carried out at 10,950 business premises, 1,642 factories, 729 hostels and 599 construction sites from June 25 to July 31 of this year.

“Compound notices up to RM456,500 were issued, and 148 premises were ordered to be temporarily closed,” he said.

SAC Razali said his men had also distributed food assistance to 555 people between July 7 and Aug 21 of this year as part of the community service to locals impacted by the pandemic.

He said that 92.3% of locals were also happy with the state police’s way of executing their tasks during the enforcement of the SOP.

“The feedback was received from thousands of respondents during a public survey between July 13 and July 19 this year,” he added.
