Covid-19 Watch: 178 new deaths bring total fatalities to 13,480

PUTRAJAYA: A further 178 people have died due to Covid-19, the Health Ministry reported on Thursday (Aug 19).

In his daily Covid-19 statement, Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said Selangor reported 65 fatalities, the most among all the states.

Other states reporting death cases are Johor (36 cases), Kuala Lumpur (23), Sabah (11), Penang (eight), Pahang (eight), Melaka (eight), Kelantan (five), Negri Sembilan (four) Sarawak (four), Terengganu (four), Kedah (one) and Perak (one).

There were 35 cases classified as brought-in-dead (BID), comprising 26 Malaysians and nine foreigners.

Since the pandemic began, 13,480 people have died from Covid-19 in Malaysia.

This is 0.9% of the country’s total Covid-19 cases.

On Thursday, Malaysia reported 22,948 cases of Covid-19 – a new daily record.

There are 255,534 active cases nationwide.

Of that number, 1,060 are under intensive care with 528 on ventilator support.

Meanwhile, the Health Ministry detected 42 new Covid-19 clusters across the country.

Of those, 23 are workplace clusters, which have produced 972 confirmed Covid-19 cases.

There are 15 clusters classified as community outbreaks and 423 cases are linked to them.
