COVIDTrace now available on Android
KUCHING: Contact tracing smartphone application COVIDTrace is now available for download on Android smartphones.
Local Government and Housing Minister Datuk Seri Dr Sim Kui Hian said the app is now available for download through the Google Play Store and covers most smartphone platforms with a version of the app released for Apple devices last week.
“COVIDTrace is an app that is able to do digital contact tracing via the user’s mobile phone Bluetooth technology. It is highly secure with encryption and its data is stored locally.
“The data can only be accessed via a valid personal identification number (PIN) verification with a person’s consent and by an authorised health officer,” he wrote in a Facebook on Wednesday night.
He thanked the Sarawak Multimedia Authority (SMA) and Sarawak Information Systems Sdn Bhd (Sains) for working together on developing the application as a tool to fight Covid-19.
“We need as many Sarawakians as possible to download this app onto your mobile phones to make it work. Please help to do your part,” he said.
Dr Sim, who also promoted the use of the app last week, said the COVIDTrace application is part of the state government’s 3T strategy — tracking, testing and treating.
“If you happen to be infected, with your permission, the health authority will be able to trace people that you have come into contact with for early testing and treatment,” he said at the time.
