Imagine you have to organise some important event on a messenger app, but all kinds of people are constantly butting in, posting memes and adding their two cents without being asked.

Signal wants to allow admins to cut the chitchat and restrict who is allowed to send messages in any group chat in the messenger app.

The new function, similar to group admin options on WhatsApp and Telegram, can be found in the settings under “Send messages.”

Signal imagines you’ll be using this when setting up a group chat for work events or announcements, where the back and forth between participants can quickly drown out more important messages.

However, all group members will need to be using the latest version of Signal before the setting is displayed to admins.

In addition, the new feature has initially only been implemented in the Android app, iOS users will have to wait a little longer.

On the other hand, Signal’s iOS app has caught up with the Android application in another function: On iPhones, too, several messages can now be selected for simultaneous forwarding. You can also write a new message to accompany the forwarded messages, so they don’t just show up unannounced. – dpa
