PETALING JAYA: A two-minute video by Deputy Women, Family and Community Development Minister Datuk Siti Zailah Mohd Yusoff advising husbands to bodily “touch” their wives in a “soft but firm” technique to reprimand them has raised eyebrows and drawn criticism on-line.
Siti Zailah, who’s from PAS, had posted a number of movies on her social media accounts, on how husbands and wives can inform one another off about their behaviours.
In a video about how husbands can achieve this, Siti Zailah mentioned for husbands, typically a spouse doesn’t cowl her aurat (areas of her physique that must be coated to guard her modesty) or does one thing that he doesn’t like.
“It is the role of the husband to educate their wives, and the same goes the other way round, too.
“This is to apply a bit of pressure on her to show that he does not appreciate her behaviour.
“If she still refuses to change, or does things that go against Allah’s commands and does not follow discipline, the husband can use a physical touch which is soft and seeks to educate.
“It is full of love, which is not painful but shows firmness that the behaviour should be changed,” she mentioned within the video uploaded on Saturday (Feb 12).
Siti Zailah mentioned equally for wives, if their husbands refuse to take heed to them after being instructed correctly, the deputy minister urges them to hope to Allah to open their husbands’ hearts to such advice.
