PETALING JAYA: Being fully vaccinated should not be used as an excuse to be complacent in observing the standard operating procedures (SOPs), says Khairy Jamaludin (pic).
The Health Minister reminded the Klang Valley citizens to continue complying with the SOPs such as wearing face masks, maintaining physical distance and washing hands regularly despite being fully inoculated.
“Following the Prime Minister’s announcement, I noticed that many residents in the Klang Valley utilised the recent weekend by bringing their families, including small children, to shopping malls and even picnics at recreational parks.
“I understand many are excited about this relaxation especially after almost three months of being in Phase One of the National Recovery Plan (NRP) and movement control order (MCO) before that.
“However, such activities could inevitably lead to crowd gathering and low SOP compliance,” he said on Facebook on Tuesday (Sept 14).
Khairy added that monitoring and analysis by the Health Ministry (MOH) has shown a declining trend of Covid-19 cases in the Klang Valley and would subsequently lead to an endemic phase of the outbreak by the end of October.
“However, to realise this goal, it requires the cooperation of the entire community to continue to comply with the SOPs.
“If this fails to be practiced and adhered to, my concern is that we will not be able to move into the endemic phase, thus hampering the government’s recovery efforts,” he said.
He said the success of bringing the country out of the pandemic does not only rely on the government but also the level of compliance of the public to the SOPs.
“If society takes lightly the leniency given, it is not impossible for the infection situation to get worse again.
“In this regard, I sincerely hope that the whole society can take advantage of the relaxation granted by continuing to adopt the culture of new norms in our daily lives.
“Remember, the success of curbing this pandemic involves the involvement and comprehensive approach of the government and the people,” Khairy added.
