PETALING JAYA: MCA president Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong has congratulated long jumper Abdul Latif Romly (pic) for bringing home Malaysia’s third gold medal in the Tokyo Paralympic Games.

“Malaysia’s third gold medal! Congratulations to national hero, Abdul Latif Romly for winning the gold medal in the long jump event of the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games,” Dr Wee posted on his Facebook account on Saturday (Sept 4), shortly after the event.

Abdul Latif, the gold medalist of the Rio 2016 Paralympic Games, jumped 7.45m beating Greece’s Athanasios Prodromou who delivered a jump of 7.17m and Australian Nicholas Hum’s 7.12m in third place.

“Thank you Abdul Latif, coaches, paralympic athletics team, and the Malaysian contingent for making Malaysia proud! (mengharumkan nama Malaysia),” Dr Wee added.

Abdul Latif sustained an injury but did enough to retain his men’s long jump T20 title and help Malaysia achieve its three-gold medal target at the Tokyo Paralympics on Saturday.

Besides Abdul Latif, the other two golds were delivered by Bonnie Bunyau Gustin (powerlifting) and Cheah Liek Hou (badminton) while the two silvers came from Jong Yee Khie (powerlifting) and Chew Wei Lun (boccia).
