Early Raya: Labour Day holiday to fall on May 4 except for Kedah, Terengganu, Kelantan, Johor, says PM

PETALING JAYA: Labour Day holiday will robotically be carried over to Wednesday (May 4) as Hari Raya Aidilfitri falls on Monday (May 2), says Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob (pic).

The Prime Minister mentioned according to the official announcement of Hari Raya Aidilfitri for 2022 by the Keeper of the Rulers’ Seal that 1 Syawal 1443H, Hari Raya Aidilfitri of 2022 falls on Monday (May 2).

“The Labour Day Holiday will automatically be carried over to Wednesday (May 4).

“This is in line with the provisions of Section 3 of the Holidays Act 1951 (Act 369), Holidays Ordinance (Sabah Cap. 56) and Public Holidays Ordinance (Sarawak Cap. 8),” he mentioned in an announcement on Sunday (May 1).

Ismail Sabri, nevertheless mentioned, the automated Labour Day substitute holiday doesn’t apply to the Kedah, Terengganu, Kelantan and Johor as a result of Labour Day falls on a Sunday which is a working day in these states.

“However, it is subject to the decision of the local authority of the respective states to make any announcements regarding the leave.

On Sunday (May 1), the Keeper of the Rulers’ Seal Tan Sri Syed Danial Syed Ahmad introduced that Muslims in Malaysia will have a good time Hari Raya Aidilfitri on Monday (May 2).

“In conserving with the command of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, following the consent of the Rulers, I hereby declare that the date for Hari Raya for the states in Malaysia has been set for Monday, May 2, 2022,” he mentioned.

The announcement was broadcast over native tv networks.
