Floods: Govt offering various initiatives to help victims get back on their feet, says Dr Wee


PETALING JAYA: Various support initiatives are being supplied by the federal government to help flood victims get back on their toes, says Datuk Dr Seri Wee Ka Siong (pic).

The Transport Minister stated he welcomed the Prime Minister’s transfer to improve the Bantuan Wang Ihsan (BWI) fee for flood victims from RM500 to RM1,000 per family.

“I also commend the RM500 cash voucher provided for the purchase of electrical goods to each family to replace electrical goods damaged by the floods,” he stated in a Facebook publish Saturday (Jan 1).

Dr Wee added that the federal government may also present money help of up to RM5,000 for dwelling restore works for every household who had suffered non-serious harm.

“For serious damage, the government will assist in home repair works at a cost of up to RM15,000.

“For houses that are completely destroyed, the government will help with the rebuilding cost of up to RM56,000 per unit,” Dr Wee stated, including {that a} RM1,000 money voucher was additionally offered for automobile buy or restore works.

He additionally stated that 21 companies underneath the Transport Ministry had coordinated volunteers to help the flood victims, together with ministry employees who have been affected.

Dr Wee added that the Transport Ministry would proceed to assist the nation’s financial restoration in 2022.

He stated the ministry was dedicated to making certain the expansion of the logistics and transportation sector.

“This is proven by the success of Port Klang and the Tanjung Pelepas Port in breaking a record in the handling of containers since the beginning of its operations.

“The Ministry, together with all agencies under it, will work hard to achieve many more successes for the benefit of the people and the country,” he stated.
