KUALA LUMPUR: The Royal Chulan Hotel here is witnessing a flurry of activity, where Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob is said to be meeting government officials.

A black Toyota Vellfire, the official car of the Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Special Functions) Datuk Seri Mohd Redzuan Md Yusof, was seen leaving the hotel at around 5.30pm on Sunday (Aug 15).

It was learnt that other ministers, including Home Minister Datuk Hamzah Zainudin, are currently in the hotel.

This comes to light as Datuk Seri Nazri Aziz has signed a statutory declaration (SD), supporting Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob as prime minister and has urged all Umno MPs to do the same to end the ongoing political turmoil.

Nazri said he signed the SD at a hotel in Kuala Lumpur on Sunday afternoon.

“I’ve already signed and I think all Umno MPs should support this, including those who are opposed to Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.Speculation is rife about the reason Ismail Sabri was holding a meeting with other government officials.

Earlier on Sunday, a statement purportedly issued by Perikatan Nasional in naming Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob as Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin’s successor went viral.

The statement dated Aug 15, claimed that the Perikatan presidential council has agreed to name Ismail Sabri as the ninth Prime Minister to continue Muhyiddin’s legacy.

It also stated that International Trade and Industry Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali would be chosen as the candidate for the Deputy Prime Minister’s post.

Perikatan secretary-general Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin issued a statement, saying that this was fake.
