Food traders allowed to increase prices, but no profiteering, says deputy minister

KUCHING: Following the rising costs of uncooked supplies, meals traders are allowed to increase their promoting costs so long as there are no components of profiteering, says Datuk Rosol Wahid.

The Deputy Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Minister mentioned there have been complaints and grievances from traders who mentioned the costs of meals objects had to be elevated as the prices of uncooked supplies have skyrocketed.

“Obviously, traders need income. They (traders) might increase (promoting) costs but their income should not be excesssive.

“We held engagement classes, and the ministry takes care of the buying and selling side in addition to customers. We need traders to do enterprise ethically and we are not looking for customers to be deceived,” he informed reporters right here Friday.

Rosol mentioned this after reviewing the implementation and compliance of the Malaysian Family Maximum Price Scheme on the Stutong Community Market right here, which started on Dec 7, 2021, and ends on Feb 4.

Also current on the occasion have been the ministry’s enforcement director Azman Adam and Kuching South City Council mayor Datuk Wee Hong Seng.
