KOTA KINABALU: Three siblings were among four missing after a swim at Gorongon beach area in Putatan near here.
The four, aged between eight and 17, were apparently pulled into the open sea by a sudden surge in tide and underwater currents at about 5pm Tuesday (June 1).
However, four others who were with them managed to swim to safety.
The four missing were identified as Korais Amit, 8, Norain Amit, 13, Rafidah Amit, 14, and Dalang Amit, 17.
Penampang district police chief Deputy Supt Mohd Haris Ibrahim said the four survivors aged between nine and 13 immediately alerted villagers for help.
However, the villagers informed police and firemen after failing to locate the missing four.
Search and rescue was continuing in the area by police, firemen and Rela.
