KUCHING: A total of 318 pupils in the constituency of Nangka will join a free online tuition initiative starting next month.
Education, Science and Technological Research Assistant Minister Dr Annuar Rapaee said the registration session for the pupils was closed yesterday.
“For the free online tuition in Nangka constituency, a total of 318 pupils, comprising primary four, five and six pupils from schools within the area have registered.
“At the beginning, the Nangka education committee only wanted to take 180 pupils, but due to overwhelming demands, the teachers have agreed to take all of the registered pupils,” he wrote in a Facebook posting yesterday.
The free online tuition initiative is pioneered by the Nangka education committee with the help of the Nangka service centre.
It caters for level two primary school students and uses the Zoom online video conferencing application.
Earlier this week, Dr Annuar said nine specialist teachers were being roped in to provide the tuition for Mathematics and Science subjects.
He stressed that it was also done to ensure that pupils in the constituency are not being left behind in their studies during the ongoing movement control order (MCO).
