GM goals to deal with chip scarcity with new designs made in North America


(Reuters) – Common Motors goals to deal with the worldwide semiconductor scarcity with new designs inbuilt North America, President Mark Reuss mentioned on Thursday.

Reuss advised an investor convention GM is working with seven chip suppliers on three new households of microcontrollers that can cut back the variety of distinctive chips by 95% on future autos.

The provider companions embrace Qualcomm, STM, TSMC, Renesas, NXP, Infineon and ON Semi, he mentioned.

Most of GM’s future funding within the new microcontroller households “will movement to the U.S. and Canada,” Reuss mentioned.
