Health dept to distribute donated PPEs
KUCHING: Personal protective equipment (PPE) donated by non-governmental organisations (NGOs), the private sector and individuals will be distributed to hospitals across the state accordingly.
Local Government and Housing Minister Datuk Seri Dr Sim Kui Hian said the Health Department will advise on the distribution after taking their PPE inventory into consideration.
Dr Sim said the newly received PPE supply comprised of multiple items of various grades and will be distributed to Health Ministry (MOH) hospitals and facilities.
“The donated PPEs consist of N95 face masks, KN95 face masks, 3-ply surgical face masks, face shields, medical goggles, isolation gowns, coveralls, shoe covers, and gloves.
“Given the shortages of the items faced worldwide, we are being prudent in its usage,” he said adding that there was little wastage and the current rate of usage in Sarawak General Hospital was about 1,000 PPE items per day.
He also said the PPE stocks available at MOH facilities across Sarawak would last for a minimum of three to eight weeks.
“I was also told by mid-May, there will be another shipment through a chartered air cargo flight from China,” he said in a Facebook posting on Saturday.
Dr Sim also said that the matter would be discussed with both Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Adham Baba and Senior Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof during their visit to Kuching.
