Health DG: Over 60% of Covid-19 deaths reported on Tuesday (Aug 10) from Selangor and Klang Valley

PETALING JAYA: A total of 124 people in Klang Valley and Selangor died due to Covid-19 on Tuesday (Aug 10), more than 60% of the 201 deaths recorded nationwide, says Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah (pic).

The Health director-general said 87 were from Selangor and 37 from Kuala Lumpur.

He added that fatalities were also reported in Johor (20), Perak (14), Sabah (12), Penang (10), Melaka (eight), Negri Sembilan (five), Kedah and Sarawak (three each), and Terengganu (two).

Of the total number of fatalities, he said 163 were locals while 38 were foreigners.

He added that 34 fatalities involved victims who were brought in dead, comprising 13 locals and 21 foreigners.

Dr Noor Hisham also said 29 new clusters were detected on Tuesday, bringing the number of active clusters in the country to 1,238.

Of the new clusters, 17 were from workplaces and accounted for 703 cases, eight from community clusters with 212 cases, three high-risk group clusters with 90 cases, and one religious cluster with 24 cases.

Meanwhile, Dr Noor Hisham said a total of 19,991 new Covid-19 cases were reported on Tuesday (Aug 10), comprising 16,563 locals and 3,428 foreigners.

He added that a total of 1,096 patients were warded in intensive care units, with 570 needing ventilator support.
