PUTRAJAYA: The Health Ministry has identified 21 new Covid-19 clusters on Tuesday (June 22), 13 of which are linked to workplaces.
This includes the Jalan Kebun Baru cluster in Selangor, which has 10 confirmed cases.
The cluster was uncovered from a targeted screening exercise conducted on workers of a service company in Oasis Ara Damansara in Petaling Jaya.
The cluster’s name refers to the workers’ hostel located on Jalan Kebun Baru at Batu 9, Telok Panglima Garang.
Five of the new clusters were categorised as community outbreaks.
One of them is the Kampung Pulau Tukang Dolah cluster in Kelantan, where 41 cases were detected.
The index case of the cluster is a 28-year-old woman who tested positive on May 21 after developing symptoms on May 17.
The cluster’s name refers to the locality where the outbreak was detected, which is a village located in Pengkalan Chepa, Kota Baru.
One new cluster, categorised as a “high risk group”, is linked to an old folks’ home at Jalan Laksamana Cheng Ho at Melaka Tengah.
There were 26 confirmed cases detected from 51 residents and staff of the home.
The index case is 65-year-old who tested positive on June 16 after undergoing pre-hospitalisation Covid-19 screening.
Another cluster named the Tembok Ulu Teris cluster is linked to staff and inmates of a detention centre at Sungai Pelek in Sepang, Selangor.
There are 16 confirmed cases after 337 individuals were screened.
Meanwhile, the Dah Perdana Tinggi cluster in Kedah is linked to students of a higher learning institution in Taman Teknologi Tinggi Kulim.
A total of 15 positive cases were confirmed, after 255 individuals were screened and tested.
Its index case is a 20-year-old man who tested positive on June 18 after having symptoms on June 13.
There are now 850 active clusters nationwide.
