SIBU: A motorcyclist died while his pillion rider suffered serious injuries after a homemade bomb exploded in Bintangor on Wednesday (June 9).
Bintangor OCPD Deputy Supt Sekam Anoi said the duo were on their way on a motorcycle in Jalan Sungai Pidi Bakong to hunt for wild animals at 6.24pm when suddenly the homemade bomb which was placed on the motorcycle basket, exploded.
He said the rider, Lawrence Lujang, 23, an unemployed, died on the spot while his pillion rider, 53, suffered serious injuries on his legs and thigh.
He was rushed to Sarikei Hospital for treatment.
“Our initial investigation revealed that it was a homemade bomb which was meant to be used to hunt wild animals in the forest,” he said.
DSP Sekam said police viewed the matter seriously as such explosive items are extremely dangerous.
The case is being investigated under Section 6 of the Explosives Act 1957.
