Honda will be showcasing its latest developments in communication and control technologies at the upcoming Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) World Congress 2021 that will take place in Hamburg, Germany next week.

Here, the Japanese manufacturer will be presenting initiatives towards its vision of zero traffic collision fatalities through feature suites such as Honda Sensing Elite, which offers up to Level 3 automation in assisted driving. This automated driving system made its debut on the Japan-only Honda Legend Hybrid EX, making Honda the first to debut a series production vehicle with Level 3 autonomous driving capability.

The Honda Sensing Elite suite was developed with the goal of removing human error from driving, says Honda, and the Traffic Jam Pilot system in particular enables the vehicle’s system to take over driving tasks from the driver where traffic is congested.

The ITS World Congress 2021 will also mark the introduction of Honda’s participation and initiatives in the EUCAR (European Council for Automotive Research and Development) L3Pilot (Piloting Automated Driving on European Roads) programme, the European Union’s flagship project to test the viability of Level 3 automated driving in the region. Honda R&D Europe (Germany) has been a member of EUCAR since 2019.

Also joining the roll-out of safety innovations from Honda at the ITS World Congress 2021 is Safe Swarm, a technology concept that makes use of connected car technologies – such as internet connectivity, vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) and vehicle-to-infrastructure (V2I) communication – for the realising of safe and smooth traffic flow, according to Honda.

Alongside safety and driver assistance technology concepts, Honda will also be showcasing future systems towards achieving its goals of reaching carbon neutrality at the ITS World Congress 2021.
