Host Cambodia beats Brunei 6-0 in AFF U23 Championship 2022

PHNOM PENH (Xinhua): Host Cambodia on Monday (Feb 14) evening defeated Brunei 6-0 in its first match of the Asean Football Federation (AFF) U23 Championship 2022.

Held on the Morodok Techo National Stadium right here and broadcast reside on native Bayon TV channel, the sport attracted a crowd of greater than 20,000 followers, principally youth.

In the primary half, Cambodia earned three objectives from forwards Sieng Chanthea and Sa Ty and midfielder Nhean Sosidan.

Entering the second half, heavy rain delayed the sport for half an hour. After the sport resumed, Cambodia enlarged the result in 6-0 with strikes from defender Taing Bunchhai in the 72nd minute, defender Sor Ratana in the 86th minute and ahead Narong Kakada in the 89th minute.

Earlier in the day, the Philippines and Timor-Leste drew 2-2 in the event opener.

The regional soccer tourney will run till Feb 26 on the Morodok Techo National Stadium and the Prince Stadium in the capital of Phnom Penh.

Ten groups are collaborating in the event after reigning champions Indonesia withdrew resulting from Covid-19 issues.

The groups have been cut up into three teams, with the highest crew of every group and the perfect second-placed crew qualifying for the semi-finals.

Cambodia has been positioned in Group A, together with Brunei, the Philippines and Timor-Leste, whereas Group B contains Malaysia, Myanmar and Laos, as Group C includes Thailand, Vietnam and Singapore.

Cambodia will tackle the Philippines and Timor-Leste on Feb 17 and 20 respectively.
