PUTRAJAYA: The Housing and Local Government Ministry will seek additional vaccines to vaccinate more traders and will also include yet-to-be inoculated residents of public housing (PPR) into the programme.
Minister Datuk Seri Reezal Merican Naina Merican (pic) said he would be talking to the Covid-19 Immunisation Task Force (CITF) to get hold of more vaccines for the ministry’s community vaccine mobilisation programme (Movak).
“The programme is well received, and we want to expand this so that we can help those in PPR flats to get vaccinated.
“Once we have the additional vaccines, we will focus on getting traders and PPR residents in states with low vaccination rates to be inoculated,” he told reporters on Thursday (Sept 2).
According to Reezal, the Movak initiative was allocated 80,000 doses of vaccine, of which 30,000 had been administered.
The programme was launched in June in an effort to vaccinate some 500,000 traders nationwide.
Reezal said he had directed the ministry’s officials to collate the number of residents of 140 PPRs under the ministry nationwide who have yet to be vaccinated.
“This will make it easy for us to submit the request for the additional vaccines from CITF.
“I want this to be done fast because I want to create a safe environment in such housing areas, whereby its residents are all fully inoculated,” he said.
Reezal also said the ministry was looking at how it could help provide housing for those who had been affected by the Covid-19 pandemic, such as those who had lost their jobs or whose income had been severely affected.
