HR manager loses almost RM133,000 to bogus Health Ministry officer


KUALA LUMPUR: A human sources manager misplaced over RM132,900 after being conned by an individual posing as a Health Ministry official.

City Commercial Crime Investigation Department chief Asst Comm Mahidisham Ishak stated that the 47-year-old sufferer lodged a report on the matter on April 30.

“The sufferer works as a human useful resource manager at a non-public firm, and stated she acquired a name from a person who claimed to be from the Health Ministry’s Medical Supply Inspection Division,” stated ACP Mahidisham.

“The sufferer was requested to confirm if she had ever taken extra medicine reminiscent of panadol, painkillers, cough drugs or flu drugs from a group clinic,” he added in an announcement on Tuesday (May 3).

He stated the sufferer denied the allegation and the caller then transferred the decision to one other man who claimed to be a police officer.

ACP Mahidisham stated the sufferer was then informed she had a felony file for involvement in cash laundering actions.

“The caller informed her that if she didn’t confess, an arrest could be issued,” he added.

He stated the sufferer then made 5 transactions price RM132,9000 into an account between April 22 and April 26.

ACP Mahidisham stated the sufferer was then contacted once more on April 30 and ordered to switch more cash.

“Fearing she had been cheated, the sufferer lodged a police report. We have categorized the case as fraud underneath Section 420 of the Penal Code,” he stated.

ACP Mahidisham suggested victims to not panic when receiving calls from folks claiming to be from the authorities.

“Enforcement businesses don’t switch calls to different businesses. Police don’t name people to frighten them earlier than they arrest them,” he stated.

He urged the general public to chorus from transferring cash into financial institution accounts of unknown people.
