JOHOR BARU: The Temenggong Seri Maharaja Tun Ibrahim Hospital (HTSMTI) in Kulai and Mercy Malaysia have set up a field hospital to cater to the increasing number of Covid-19 cases with serious symptoms.

State Health and Environment Committee chairman R. Vidyananthan said HTSMTI has received an excessive number of patients beyond its capacity over the past four weeks, with current bed occupancy at 100%.

“The HTSMTI management has reached out to Mercy Malaysia to set up a field hospital equipped with operating equipment that could cater to up to 50 patients at one time.

“The field hospital is also equipped with showers and toilets aside from proper ventilation that could house patients who have survived the critical stage of infection and are waiting to be discharged,” he said in a statement here on Saturday (Sept 11).

He said this could also increase the bed capacity of HTSMTI, especially on wards that are treating Category 3, Category 4 and Category 5 patients.

“The field hospital started its operations on Sept 4 and will run until mid-November this year.

“As of Sept 11, a total of 75 Covid-19 patients have been treated at the field hospital with seven patients currently being treated,” he added.

Vidyananthan also said there are a total of 18 walk-in vaccination centres (PPVs) in Johor as of Saturday (Sept 11).

This includes the Persada PPV in Johor Baru that has allowed walk-ins for a maximum of 1,000 individuals a day since Sept 9.

“We have allowed walk-ins at four more PPVs on Saturday (Sept 11), namely the Desaru Coast Conference Centre PPV in Kota Tinggi as well as the Dewan Besar Persatuan Memperbaiki Akhlak PPV, Dewan Parit Yaani PPV and Dewan Serbaguna Sri Sulong PPV in Batu Pahat.

“Meanwhile, the Dewan Orang Ramai Parit Raja PPV in Batu Pahat will start allowing walk-ins on Sept 12, Dewan Jubli Intan Mersing PPV (Mersing) will start on Sept 13, Dewan Kejora Bandar Tenggara PPV (Kota Tinggi) will start on Sept 15 while Dewan Serbaguna Endau PPV (Mersing) and Dewan Makmur PPV (Batu Pahat) will start on Sept 16,” he said.

He added the public is not allowed to cross the district border to get to the PPVs as there are walk-in centres in all districts.
